New Illawarra course fills the business study gap

by | Jan 4, 2020

The gap in the business studies’ market in the Illawarra will soon be over.

From February 2020 not for profit community-based Illawarra ITeC will offer a university run Associate Degree of Business and Commerce.

The University of Southern Queensland have partnered with Illawarra ITeC to deliver face to face lectures, tutorials and workshops to enable students gain Associate Degree qualifications which can help them secure employment in the public and private business sector.

Illawarra ITeC program manager Virginia Wren said this face to face delivery of this degree was not delivered anywhere else in the Illawarra.

Ms Wren said ITeC, TAFE and others offer training from Certificate III to Diploma level. She added the University of Wollongong offers degree training from level seven through to 10.

“There has never been anyone in the region who offers level six training up until now,” Ms Wren said.

As part of the degree, accounting, information systems, economics and organisational behaviour will be delivered in early 2020 through a combination of face to face lectures, tutorials, workshops and online resources.

“The Associate Degree of Business and Commerce will be delivered in small classes in the Illawarra ensuring a more personalised and supportive approach to learning,” she said.

“Students will receive assistance to gain part-time employment and work experience placements so that they can earn while they learn.”

Ms Wren added this was the perfect way to start a degree in business at the university.

“An Associate Degree is a qualification in its own right, but it also has a pathway to a Bachelor Degree which means that the 16 courses that you study over the next two years , can count towards a Bachelor Degree.

“Approved students will also be able to apply for HECS-HELP,” she said.
