This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to commence your career in the carpentry field within the construction Industry, providing an outcome and a range of skills that will enhance your ability to gain an apprenticeship.

The student will learn the requirements to work safely in a construction environment including understanding work health and safety requirements and the regulations, identifying hazards, assessing risks, understanding operation procedures and completing WHS report forms, using (PPE) personal protection equipment and ensuring tools and equipment are safe to use.

Tools, equipment and materials

Students will learn the correct handling, use, maintenance and storage requirements for a range of hand and power tools including compound mitre saws, sanding tools, chisels, bevels, squares, tape measures, electric planes, measuring and levelling equipment and more.


The projects are designed to provide the student with the skills and knowledge required to work within the construction industry.

Students will undertake a range of projects where they will plan and prepare for each task which will include interpreting construction documentation such as sketches, plans and specifications.

While undertaking each task the student will plan the task, calculate material quantities, use required tools and equipment following standard operational procedures (SOPs) for each step of the task, referring to safety requirements and work in teams as well as individually.
