ITeC’s Certificate III in Screen and Media course offers students a practical introduction to film making and media content creation. This course covers a variety of areas from Pre Production to Production to Post production. If you are wanting to gain skills for entry level media and content creation in the entertainment industry then this is the course for you.

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for assistant operator roles in the screen, media and entertainment industries such as interactive digital media, film and television, radio, lighting and sound, content creation and technical broadcasting environments.

The job roles may include editing assistant, assistant content creator, assistant sound technician, assistant audio visual technician, assistant radio producer, podcast producer, community radio producer, community radio presenter, junior animator, camera assistant and technical production assistant. Individuals usually work under direction, using some discretion and judgement, and may provide technical advice and support to a team.

So what will I learn throughout the course?

Pre Production Stage

Pre production includes Screenplay writing using industry standard formatting of your script, creating shot lists, shooting schedules, inventory lists, release forms and more. These are required in order to plan and organise shoots for the production stage to run smoothly and are an essential phase in film and media production.

Production Stage

The production stage is when you will learn to use camera fundamentals such as focus, exposure, iso, frame composition, lenses, filters and various other camera settings and techniques, lighting setups including three point lighting, using reflectors, diffusion and more. You will also learn how to use audio field recorders, boom microphones, setting recording levels and more in order to capture sound for your screen and media projects.

Post Production Stage

The post production stage consists of learning how to bring all of your footage and assets together in order to create a final product. This includes organisation of media assets, ingestion of footage and video editing in order to export a final product. You will also learn about delivery platforms, screen formats and codecs, naming conventions and more.
