Use Hygienic Practices for FOOD SAFETY

ITeC’s Basic Food Handler course is for people handling food in cafés, restaurants, canteens, hotels, supermarkets, fast food outlets, sandwich shops, catering operations or other food retail outlets, under supervision.

In this course students will learn how to identify and control food hazards, prevent contamination of food that may lead to food borne illnesses and accurately report on food contamination incidents and hygiene hazards.

This course is delivered by correspondence and includes the supply and marking of 1x knowledge assessment and the 1x onsite practical assessment delivered and graded within ITeC’s well-appointed training kitchen.
A Statement of Attainment certificate will be provided on successful completion of this course.
There are no hidden costs.

$195 (includes emailed soft copy of learning resources and knowledge assessments).
$230 (includes hard copy of learning resources – pick up from ITeC’s office or add $10 for postage if required).

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to use personal hygiene practices to prevent contamination of food that might cause food-borne illnesses. It requires the ability to follow predetermined organisational procedures and to identify and control food hazards.

The unit applies to all organisations with permanent or temporary kitchen premises or smaller food preparation or bar areas.  It applies to food handlers who directly handle food or food contact surfaces such as cutlery, plates, and bowls during the course of their daily work activities. This includes cooks, chefs, caterers, kitchen stewards, kitchen hands, bar, and food and beverage attendants, and sometimes room attendants and front office staff.

ITeC’s Basic Food Handler Course is delivered by a combination of correspondence learning and Knowledge Assessment plus a face to face Practical Assessment undertaken at ITeC’s premises located in Wollongong.

You will need to read the learning materials, complete and return the Knowledge Assessment before booking in for your Practical Assessment.  If you require assistance during your learning contact ITeC by phone or email for support.  Once you have completed your Knowledge Assessment forward it to ITeC via email or drop it into ITeC at Coniston or post to PO Box 1700, WOLLONGONG  2500.

ITeC will acknowledge receipt of your assessment and the Assessor will contact you within (7) working days to discuss the outcome of your Knowledge Assessment and/or to arrange a suitable time for the Practical Assessment.  When both assessments have been completed satisfactorily ITeC will issue a Statement of Attainment for SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety.

You will have up to eight (8) weeks from payment/issue of learning and assessment materials to complete both the Knowledge and Practical Assessments.
Refunds will not be issued for non-completion in specified timeframe.
